Llandudno...Thieves stole more than £3,000 of goods Boots store

That amount is shocking, no wonder the company are closing stores! THREE people stole more than £3,000 worth of goods between them from a Boots shop in Llandudno.

George Ionita, Mihai Vladu, and Mihai Voinea, all of no fixed abode, carried out a “targeted” theft at the shop in the Victoria Centre on Saturday (February 1).

At Llandudno Magistrates’ Court today (February 3), they were all sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for a year, after admitting their offence. The court heard that police were contacted by a Boots employee, before the shopkeeper checked CCTV and noticed the three men in the store’s vitamin aisle.

She had seen them taking various items, ripping the security tags off them, and placing them inside the lining of their coats.

They were traced back to a vehicle, which was found and searched – the total value of the items recovered was £3,020.27.

Most of the items stolen were health and wellness products.

Ionita had prior convictions for theft, while the other defendants were of previous good character.

In mitigation for the defendants, the court heard that they had only arrived in to the country from their native Romania three weeks ago.

They were said to be “very sorry for their actions”, having come to the UK for work and a “better life”.

All three men have partners and children in Romania, meanwhile.

Sentencing, District Judge Gwyn Jones told them: “It’s clear that you’ve targeted the store with a view to stealing high-value goods, which you could then sell on the alternative market.

“Shoplifting from our stores is endemic. Even large stores cannot cope with the vast amount of thefts that they are presently suffering.”

The men will each pay costs of £85, and were banned from all Boots stores in England and Wales for five years, as well as being prevented from contacting four members of Boots staff for the same period of time.

“That is necessary and proportionate, in view of the risk you pose to those stores and its staff members,” the judge said. From...https://www.northwalespioneer.co.uk/news/24906201.thieves-stole-3-000-goods-llandudno-boots-store/
