Just why they built this Carbuncle there I will never know, they should have left it as a hotel for migrants, at least it had a purpose. The group that own the only Hilton hotel in North Wales are going into administration with a pre-pack sale lined up. Hilton Garden Inn hotel opened back in 2021 next to the surf lagoon at Adventure Park Snowdonia, Dolgarrog.
The hotel and surf lagoon have been backed by £8m of Welsh Government funding alongside millions of pounds of investment by the Ainscough family. Surfing came to an end in the summer of 2023 after a series of mechanical failures. But the hotel continued to operate and adventure giant Zip World It is understood the hotel - owned by Snowdonia Hotel Ltd - went up for sale last March.
A source told North Wales Live that Snowdonia Hotel filed a Notice of Intention to appoint administrators earlier this month. It is expected that an administrator will be appointed today.
North Wales Live has been told that a 'pre-pack' deal has been set up with another hotel group to take on the site. It is understood staff have been paid in full and will move across to the new company once a final deal is completed. There are 75 staff at the site.
It is understood it will no longer trade under the Hilton brand. Hilton and the hotel site owners have been asked to comment.
On Companies House the fixed charge holders listed at the hotel company include the Welsh Government. The sale price is not known at this stage or what money the Welsh Government will recover.
