Conwy paddling pools remain shut with summer holidays in full swing

And one is soon to be demolished too! They destroyed a lovely outdoor swimming pool in Rhos On Sea, that was a real shame.

Conwy’s four paddling pools are yet to open, despite the school summer holidays being well under way. Both primary and secondary schools broke up for the summer last week, but Conwy Council is yet to open its paddling pools at Craig-y-DonRhos on Sea, Penmaenmawr, or Llanfairfechan.

The council announced in April it would not be filling the four paddling pools this summer after a private contractor pulled out of installing anti-slip coating around the pools. But a huge public backlash followed, and the council found a contractor to carry out the specialist work.

Since the new contractor was announced, though, speculation on social media has continued, and no date for the work’s completion has followed. Conwy Council has said it hopes the four pools will reopen as soon as possible.

A spokeswoman for the local authority said: “Work on the paddling pools is progressing well, dealing with a number of structural issues, and ensuring we'll have a quality base and finish once completed. This is a major investment to secure the long-term future of these much-loved community assets, and we do appreciate the communities' patience whilst we carry out this essential work.

"The local contractor has gone over and above, and we're very grateful to them for all their hard work. We're committed to getting the work completed safely and the facilities open as soon as we can.”
