What a poor fine, and really for assaulting emergency workers he should have gone to jail.
A MAN from Conwy was handed a community order after admitting to assaulting one police constable and resisting another.
Darren McDermott, 42, of Mona Road, was accused of resisting PC Thomas, and of assaulting PC Jones by beating him, in Conwy on November 24, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to both at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on January 25.
McDermott is to complete a maximum of 10 days of rehabilitation activity and six months of alcohol treatment.
The court ordered him to pay a fine of £80, compensation of £50, costs of £85, and a victim surcharge of £114.
This totaled £329, to be paid as a full lump sum within 28 days.
An application was made for deductions from his benefits.

ReplyDeleteThe 2018 Act, as amended by s.2 PCSC Act 2022, makes provision for increased sentencing powers for offences of common assault and battery committed against an emergency worker acting in the exercise of functions as such a worker. For an offence committed on or after 28 June 2022 the maximum sentence is 2 years imprisonment. So what happened?
