Conwy council brands housing migrants at Snowdonia hotel 'wholly inappropriate'! And so does everyone else!
They need to close this own than demolish it, rather than house Migrants in it. It should never have been grant planning if the was a chance it would be used for this purpose.
Conwy council has responded to reports up to 200 migrants are being housed at a North Wales hotel under orders from the Home Office. Asylum seekers are reportedly being housed at the Hilton Garden Inn hotel at Adventure Parc Snowdonia, which Conwy council has branded "wholly inappropriate."
The council statement comes after police officers were spotted at the Conwy hotel and guests reported their hotel bookings had been cancelled until spring 2023. Aberconwy MS Janet Finch-Saunders has written to Home Secretary Suella Braverman claiming that as many as 200 asylum seekers are staying at the Dolgarrog hotel.
Robin Millar, Conservative MP for Aberconwy, has also expressed concerns about the arrangement, stating "It is a hotel, not a detention centre." As more reports emerge, Conwy Council leader Charlie McCoubrey has revealed the council was not warned of the Home Office's plans.
In a statement, Cllr McCoubrey said: “We were not given advance notice that the Home Office intended to accommodate people at the Hilton Garden Hotel in Dolgarrog. We have been making enquiries about the arrangements.
“The Council and North Wales Emergency Services are working together to ensure appropriate measures are put in place by the Home Office to support the interests of individuals and the local community.
“Conwy has welcomed many people to the county in recent times, including those fleeing the war in Ukraine, however throughout that time we have been clear that this particular rural location is wholly inappropriate to house vulnerable people.”
The Home Office is yet to comment on "operational arrangements" but said it only used hotels as a "short-term solution" until "appropriate accommodation" was found.
